Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed Alexis Sanchez is facing a long lay-off with a hamstring injury.The Chile forward, who has struggled to make an impact at Old Trafford following his high-profile move from Arsenal in January, sustained the problem in training on Thursday.2

And Mourinho is not expecting the 29-year-old to be available for selection until the New Year.“It is an aggressive muscular injury,” he said, at his press conference on Friday ahead of the trip to Southampton.“He has not had a scan yet but the player is experienced. He knows what injury is.“From my experience, the painful scream and way it happened, it will be a long time.“I dont want to risk by saying for how long he will be out but from the top of my experience I would say he is not playing this year. If Mourinho’s forecast proves accurate then Sanchez would miss up to then fixtures across a jam-packed festive schedule, including the visit of his former club Arsenal next week.Mourinho believes Sanchez’s injury is worse than the one that is set to keep defender Victor Lindelof out of action for about three weeks.The Portuguese added: “For me and also for Alexis, the feeling before the scans is that the grade is different than the Lindelof one – and the Lindelof one is not the easy one.”The injury further adds to Sanchez’s disappointing time at Old Trafford.He was omitted from Tuesday’s Champions League win over Young Boys entirely and is now set for more time on the sidelines.As a result, a move to European giants Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain has been mooted, with his days under Mourinho seemingly numbered.2
