Simon Jordan blasts plans to give Richard Scudamore 5million golden goodbye
Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has blasted the proposed 5million golden handshake for outgoing Premier League boss Richard Scudamore.Clubs in the top-flight are being asked to contribute 250,000 each to Scudamore’s farewell bonus after 20-years of service.Television executive Susanna Dinnage was named as his successor on Tuesday, however widespread outrage of Scudamore’s bonus dominated Wednesday’s back pages. And while Jordan was keen to highlight the Premier League’s great work over the last two decades, he slammed the idea of a lucrative parting gift.“It’s flawed. He’s done a good job fighting people, there were some very difficult personalities and some very difficult conundrums.News of Susanna Dinnage’s appointment has been overshadowed1

“But this doesn’t mean he should be getting a 5million golden goodbye.“I know people are going to jump on it. The easy thing is: grassroots, grassroots.“That’s what people are going to jump on but that’s the FA’s failing. That’s not the Premier League.“The Premier League runs English football. “So if you want to turn around and say what Scudamore’s done and how clever he’s been, he’s been clever to make the FA become his poodle rather than the other way round.”The idea was reportedly suggested by Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck, who believes Scudamore deserves recognition for20 years of negotiating the league’s inflation-busting broadcast deals. It is understood, however, that Scudamore, who has earned more than 26million since 1999, was unaware of the plan and is disappointed it took the spotlight off Dinnage’s arrival.
