Danny Murphy believes the furious exchange between Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri and Kepa Arrizabalaga could have been a time-wasting attempt by the goalkeeper that backfired.Chelsea lost Sundays Carabao Cup final to Manchester City on penalties, but the result of the Wembley clash has been completely eclipsed by the incredible scenes between the Blues star and his boss.3

Sarri erupted with rage on the touchline when Kepa refused to be substituted towards the end of the game. With the Spaniard apparently struggling with cramp, Sarri was ready to replace him with number two keeper and penalty saving specialist Willy Caballero, only for the number one to refuse the orders.Kepa has been accused of humiliating his manager and undermining his authority by waving away Sarri and Caballero and telling referee Jon Moss he was not leaving the pitch.Sarri was forced to give in but was evidently not happy, as he stormed around his dugout, tore at his clothing, gestured towards his staff and even threatened to go back down the tunnel to the dressing room, only then to change his mind and return to his seat.3

The Italian coach later dismissed the episode as a big misunderstanding, but Murphy has a theory as to what might have happenedHe believes Kepa could have merely been feigning injury to run down the clock, which could perhaps explain his reaction when Sarri made a move to replace him before the shoot-out.Youre either injured or youre not, you dont have cramp as a goalkeeper, Murphy told talkSPORT host Jim White.Maybe he was wasting time and it backfired on him.It would actually let him off the hook if he said, All I was doing was trying to waste time to get us to penalties.So maybe it was a blag and the message didnt get through to Sarri.3

Whether thats the truth or not, Murphy insists Kepa was totally in the wrong and that he actually disrespected stand-in keeper Caballero more than manager Sarri with his actions.Ultimately, when youre number comes up youve got to go, he added.The disrespect he showed to his fellow goalkeeper, that was the biggest problem for me.
